Great Berlin Wheel, Unbuilt Ferris wheel project near Berlin Zoological Garden, Germany.
The Great Berlin Wheel was a planned ferris wheel next to the Zoological Garden that would have reached 175 meters tall with 28 passenger capsules holding 40 people each. The structure was designed to rotate slowly, offering visitors sweeping views across the city.
The project began with a groundbreaking ceremony in 2007 at the Zoological Garden site with plans to open in 2008. Financial difficulties emerged and prevented the construction from ever starting, ultimately ending the proposal.
The wheel would have complemented Berlin's modest skyline, where most buildings remain under seven stories except for the TV Tower.
The ferris wheel does not exist today and cannot be visited since construction never took place. It remains an architectural project known only through historical images and plans.
Each rotation of the wheel was planned to last 35 minutes, with capsules moving at a speed of 25 centimeters per second.
