Landsberg am Lech

The Landkreis Landsberg am Lech covers 804 square kilometers and contains 31 municipalities between the districts of Aichach-Friedberg, Fürstenfeldbruck, and Starnberg.

The district obtained its current boundaries through the administrative reform of 1972, following centuries of territorial development under Bavarian rule since 1180.

The district lies along the Bavarian-Alemannic language border, where the Lechrainer dialect creates distinct linguistic variations across neighboring communities.

The district connects to major transportation routes via Bundesautobahn 96 and Bundesstraße 17, providing direct access to Munich and Augsburg.

Agricultural land occupies 82.2 percent of the district area, with elevation ranging from 521 meters at Unterbergen to 853 meters at Sachsenrieder Forst.
