Göttingen Observatory, Observatory in Göttingen, Germany
The three-winged neoclassical structure features a central dome and two meridian halls with specialized observation slits for astronomical measurements.
Carl Friedrich Gauss directed the observatory from 1807 to 1855, conducting research in mathematics, astronomy, and geodesy within these halls.
The building represents early 19th-century scientific architecture, integrating specific design elements to support precise astronomical observations and measurements.
Following renovations completed in 2008, the observatory now houses the Lichtenberg-Kolleg Institute for Advanced Study at Göttingen University.
In 1833, the observatory established the first electromagnetic telegraph system, connecting it to the physics department in Göttingen city center.
