Mainz Römisches Theater station, Railway station and cultural heritage monument in Mainz, Germany
Mainz Römisches Theater is a station in Mainz with four platform tracks linked to Mainz Central Station and Mainz-Gustavsburg. It serves regional trains and S-Bahn lines S6 and S8 for commuters and travelers across the region.
The station opened in 1858 originally named Mainz-Neuthor. A new brick building designed by Johann Philipp Berdellé was completed in 1884 and remains its main structure today.
The station takes its name from the nearby Roman Theatre ruins, once the largest performance venue north of the Alps. This historical connection shapes how locals and visitors understand the area today.
All platforms are wheelchair accessible through lifts installed in 2012, making entry easy for every passenger. Connections to Frankfurt, Worms, and Oppenheim run regularly and reliably.
The station building contains cast iron columns from 1861 originally used at the Hessian Ludwig Railway station in Darmstadt. These columns were restored and reinstalled here in 2008, preserving their long past.
