Nordperd, Natural viewpoint in Ostseebad Göhren, Germany
Nordperd is a forested cape that rises about 60 meters above the Baltic Sea and forms the easternmost point of Rügen island. The peninsula drops steeply to the water and creates clear sightlines to Greifswalder Oie, Usedom island, and the port town of Sassnitz.
The cape formed through glacial processes during ice ages that fundamentally shaped Rügen's landscape. In the early modern period, a harbor promenade was built to protect the coastal cliffs from erosion.
The name Nordperd refers to the northern position of this cape at Rügen's eastern tip. Today visitors see mixed forests of beech and pine trees that shape the landscape and frame views toward the sea.
The area is well served by marked hiking trails along coastal cliffs with open sea views and fresh air. Sturdy footwear is recommended since the ground can be uneven and some paths have muddy or damp sections.
About 300 meters offshore rests the Buskam, Germany's largest glacial boulder, transported here during the ice age. This enormous rock remains visible to visitors looking down at the Baltic Sea from above.
