Eisstadion Inzell, Speed skating arena in Inzell, Germany.
Eisstadion Inzell is a speed skating facility in the Bavarian town of Inzell, built around a 400-meter oval track, a hockey rink, and an inline skating area. The main track is covered by a roof, which allows skating to take place regardless of the weather outside.
The venue opened in 1965 after natural ice on nearby lakes became unreliable due to mild winters, making it difficult to train or compete outdoors. In the decades that followed, the infrastructure was gradually expanded, with the addition of a roof being among the most significant changes.
The stadium carries the name of Max Aicher, a local entrepreneur who supported the facility financially for decades. For many speed skaters from around the world, Inzell has become a regular stop on the competition calendar, and the town has adapted to welcoming international visitors.
The venue focuses on ice skating from September to March, while summer months are given over to inline skating. It is worth checking in advance what is on during your visit, since the schedule shifts with the season and some periods are reserved for training or competitions.
Since opening, the track has hosted more than 80 world records in speed skating, which is rare for a venue at low elevation. Most record-breaking facilities are at high altitude where thinner air reduces resistance, but Inzell sits low enough to make its records valid under standard international rules.
