Adlerwarte Berlebeck, Bird of prey sanctuary in Detmold, Germany
Adlerwarte Berlebeck is a bird of prey sanctuary in the Teutoburg Forest near Detmold that houses around 180 raptors from about 48 species in specially designed enclosures. The facility displays falcons, eagles, buzzards, and other hunting birds in a forest setting.
The sanctuary was founded by Adolf Deppe with roots in bird observation and falconry practice traditions. An educational center focused on raptor conservation was developed in the 1990s.
Daily flight demonstrations at the sanctuary display traditional German falconry techniques while educating visitors about raptor behavior and abilities.
The facility is set within the Teutoburg Forest and is best visited during warmer months when conditions are most comfortable. Bring sturdy shoes and allow time to watch the birds and observe their flight demonstrations throughout your visit.
Visitors can participate in the Falconer for a Day program, learning direct handling techniques and care procedures for various birds of prey.
