Walsum

Walsum is the northernmost district of Duisburg, combining residential neighborhoods with industrial facilities spread along the Rhine riverbanks. Schools and green spaces are distributed throughout the area, shaping its character.

The area expanded rapidly in the late 1800s when coal mining and a power station were established. These industrial facilities became the backbone of the district's growth.

The Franz Lenze Square serves as a local meeting point near shops where residents and visitors naturally gather. Benches and exercise equipment throughout the space invite people to stop and stay awhile.

The district is best explored by bicycle or car since neighborhoods and attractions are spread out across the area. The river ferry to Orsoy and bus stops provide connections for those without personal transport.

The ferry to Orsoy, operating since 1958, crosses the Rhine daily carrying cars, cyclists, and pedestrians between the banks. This crossing remains a vital link for commuters moving between the two sides.
