Hornburg, Medieval town district in Schladen-Werla, Germany.
Hornburg is a town district in Schladen-Werla located in the Harz foothills and characterized by approximately 400 half-timbered houses protected as historical monuments. The properties are concentrated mainly in the eastern sections and form the visual foundation of the community.
During the 16th century, Hornburg became the center of hop cultivation in Northern Germany and enjoyed its greatest period of growth. This era shaped the local economy and built the prosperity visible in the architecture today.
The Church of Mary dominates the town center with its 17th-century architecture and reflects the religious roots of the community. It remains accessible to visitors and serves as the visual anchor of the central squares.
The town is easy to explore on foot and offers various amenities including shops, restaurants, and medical services within comfortable walking distance. Additional recreational facilities like an outdoor pool, mini-golf, and a museum are also accessible nearby.
Since 1999, the town features a Garden for the Senses with roughly 30 interactive objects scattered through squares and alleys for visitors to touch and explore. This installation was designed to help people experience the place in an unconventional sensory way.
