Bahnbetriebswerk Hermeskeil, Railroad museum in Hermeskeil, Germany.
The Bahnbetriebswerk Hermeskeil is a railroad museum housed in a former locomotive workshop with more than 50 preserved locomotives from the early and mid-20th century. The machines are displayed in a six-track roundhouse with a rotating turntable alongside the original depot buildings.
The facility was founded in 1888 as a workshop for locomotive repairs and served for decades as a railroad operating depot. Operations ceased in 1959, after which it became a private museum to preserve this industrial heritage.
The depot was once a working place where railroad workers maintained locomotives with skill and dedication. The buildings and machines show how these workers organized their labor and what techniques they used daily.
The museum sits directly across from Hermeskeil train station, making it easy to reach by rail. The best time to visit is on weekends from April through September, or daily in July and August when additional trains and events are scheduled.
The museum preserves rare locomotive series such as the 01, 22, and 41 types that few other facilities display. These machines are especially valuable because they remain with their original workshop buildings intact.
