Bassenheimer Palais, Cultural heritage monument in Oberreifenberg, Schmitten im Taunus, Germany.
The Bassenheimer Palais is a baroque manor house with two stories, seven window axes, and a slate-covered mansard hipped roof. Next to the main building stands a single-story auxiliary wing that together forms a small, self-contained estate.
The building was constructed between 1764 and 1768 as an administrative center for Johann Maria Rudolf Waldbott von Bassenheim, a member of a high noble family. After its completion, it served for a long time in managing the Reifenberg territories under this family.
The interior spaces preserve baroque original elements such as doors, wood paneling, and stucco work that date from the construction period. These craft details show the wealth and taste of the family who once lived here.
The building is located in Oberreifenberg near Reifenberg Castle and is easily accessible on foot. Visitors should note that the structure is part of private property and can only be viewed from the outside.
The palace was once part of a forest estate and later served as a hotel and forestry administration office, showing its diverse past beyond simple administrative tasks. These changing uses reflect the shifting needs of the region over the centuries.
