Theater im Hafen, Musical theater in Steinwerder, Germany

Theater im Hafen is a musical theater on the Elbe island of Steinwerder, opposite the Landungsbrücken. Its front is dominated by a 7 × 50 m glass facade, behind which sits the 600 m² Skyline Restaurant. The stage tower carries the lion-head logo of The Lion King, and the auditorium holds 2,046 seats in burgundy red and black.

The theater was built in 1994 on the grounds of the former Stülcken shipyard. A major renovation in 2001 expanded the building to accommodate a larger audience.

The theater displays artworks from Northern German and international artists in its lobby and restaurant areas. Visitors encounter these pieces as they move through the spaces before and after performances.

The theater is accessible by special ferry services from St. Pauli Landungsbrücken, departing approximately two hours before each performance. Arriving by water is part of the experience and should be factored into your visit planning.

The stage tower carries the lion-head logo of The Lion King, visible above the roof beside the yellow canopy. On the Musical Boulevard outside stand two Niki de Saint Phalle sculptures, "Blue Nana" and "Nana and Dolphin", plus Salvador Dalí's bronze "Space Elephant", over 7 metres tall. The foyer and restaurant hold more than 50 paintings and sculptures from Joop van den Ende's collection.
