EWS Arena is a multipurpose hall in Göppingen with up to 5,600 spectator places: 4,100 seats and 1,500 standing places, plus seven VIP boxes; for boxing events it holds over 6,300. The main hall and an attached ball-sports hall were rebuilt and enlarged between 2008 and 2009. Its low ceiling gives handball matches a dense, heated character, earning the nickname "Hölle Süd".

The site hosted the Schockensee from 1897, a reservoir created by restaurateur Georg Schock for boating and ice skating, with a beer garden and hall. The Hohenstaufenhalle was built there from 1964 to 1967 and handed over on 15 December 1967; its opening match was Frisch Auf Göppingen against VfL Gummersbach. It was rebuilt and enlarged into the EWS Arena in 2008 and 2009.

The venue is home to the Frisch Auf Göppingen handball teams and draws supporters who cheer for their local squads. The hall becomes a gathering point for fans attending Bundesliga matches.

The arena sits on Stauferstraße 17 in the northern part of Göppingen, on the site of the former Schockensee pond. The main hall and the attached ball sports hall are both used for school and club training, so parts of the complex can be busy on weekday mornings. The Göppinger Maientag is celebrated around the arena every year.

The hall hosted handball matches during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, making it part of Germany's Olympic history. This connection to an international sporting event makes it a special place for sports enthusiasts.
