Bomin-Haus, Office building in Bochum-Süd district, Germany.
The Bomin-Haus is a modern high-rise in the Bochum-Süd district with 20 floors and a facade made of double glass panels and aluminum frames. The structure uses fiberglass insulation for thermal protection and light reflection.
The building was constructed in 1975 and initially served as headquarters for the Bochumer Mineralölgesellschaft. It later became the administrative center for Deutsche Rentenversicherung Knappschaft-Bahn-See.
The building reflects the shift in the region's economy, as it has long housed insurance companies connected to the mining history of the Ruhr area. Visitors can see in the facade and street name how central worker protection was to the industrial workers of this region.
The building underwent comprehensive facade renovation between 2013 and 2016, with outdated elements replaced by modern materials. This work significantly improved energy efficiency and sound insulation throughout the structure.
In 2010, the building received a new address designation to mark the 750th anniversary of mining insurance. Since then it carries the address Knappschaftstraße 1, linking modern architecture directly to the region's mining heritage.
