Bornstedt Crown Estate, Royal brewery estate in Potsdam, Germany
Bornstedt Crown Estate is a royal brewing facility in northern Potsdam with buildings spanning different periods. The grounds include an operating brewery, a wine tavern, a restaurant, a bakery, and numerous craft workshops housed in renovated historic structures.
The site began around 1350 and later became the residence of Crown Princess Victoria. After major renovation work, it opened to visitors in 2002.
The estate's craft workshops allow visitors to watch artisans practice traditional techniques in real time. You can see potters shaping clay, glassmakers at their furnaces, weavers at their looms, and chandlers making candles.
The estate is walkable with clearly marked paths connecting different sections. Plan to spend several hours exploring the brewery, workshops, and dining venues at your own pace.
The glassworks on the grounds operate furnaces exceeding 1,200°C where craftspeople create intricate glass pieces. This intensive glassmaking process remains relatively uncommon to witness in person today.
