Nordschleife Nürburgring, Race track layout near Adenau, Germany
Nordschleife Nürburgring is a race track layout in the Eifel mountains near Adenau, Germany, featuring more than 150 corners and significant elevation changes throughout its route. The layout follows the natural contours of the landscape through forests and open sections.
Construction began in the 1920s and employed thousands of workers who carved the circuit into the mountainous terrain. After decades of racing, the original route was shortened and the current version emerged.
Local drivers call the circuit Green Hell because of the dense forest that lines the track and the demanding nature of the route. Many corners carry names linked to accidents or features of the terrain.
The circuit opens to the public on selected days, and visitors should check weather conditions since fog and rain occur frequently in the mountains. Experience in performance driving is recommended before attempting a lap yourself.
Some sections of the route lie so deep in the forest that drivers pass through thick foliage during rain while other parts remain dry. The surface itself has been renewed several times, but the original course remained largely unchanged.
