Burg Allerburg, Medieval castle ruins in Sonnenstein, Germany.
The oval courtyard castle stands on a steep hilltop at 323 meters elevation, featuring remnants of a round tower on the original foundations.
The fortress, constructed around 800 CE for the Herren von Allerberg nobility, received its first written mention in documents dating from 1266.
The castle chapel, dedicated to Saint Michael, served both as a place of worship and burial ground for the regional lords.
The site measures 25 by 35 meters and became more accessible after forest clearing in 2018, though fallen trees currently obstruct some paths.
Between 1916 and 1930, Baron von Minnigerode attempted to transform the ruins into a summer residence, but inflation prevented project completion.
