Burg Alsbach, Medieval water castle in Engelskirchen, Germany
The rectangular castle complex stands surrounded by a moat fed by a stream, featuring a main building accessible through a western bridge from the outer ward.
First documented in 1373, the current structure was built between 1622 and 1627, incorporating elements of an older fortification into its expanded longitudinal wing design.
The castle represents a significant example of Niederungsburg architecture in North Rhine-Westphalia, demonstrating the evolution of medieval defensive structures in the region.
External viewing of the castle is possible from forest paths, particularly from a vantage point located 200 meters along a marked trail near the site.
The castle maintains its original water defense system with a fully functioning moat that completely encircles the central manor house structure.
