Burg Neu-Windeck, Medieval castle ruins in Lauf, Germany.
Burg Neu-Windeck is a medieval castle that sits on a hilltop with a three-story residential building, additional structures, and a tall tower at its center. The layout shows how a noble stronghold was organized during the Middle Ages.
The castle was built around 1300 by the Windeck family and first appears in written records from 1371. In the 15th century, a long-standing conflict between two branches of the family came to an end through marriage.
The chapel inside reveals how faith and daily life were intertwined for the noble family who lived here.
The site is only open on weekends with parking available near the entrance and can be steep to walk through. Bring sturdy shoes since the ground rises noticeably toward the main structures.
The tall tower served both as a defensive structure and as living quarters, combining protection with daily residence in one building. Visitors can still see how the different levels were organized for various purposes.
