Wichtelkirche, Medieval castle ruins in Zierenberg, Germany
The Wichtelkirche features a tall basalt formation with a narrow platform accessible only through a northern path near the Heilerbach spring.
The Blumenstein Castle, first documented in 1342, belonged to the vassals of Hesse landgraves and fell into abandonment by 1430.
The rock formation name stems from local folklore about a dwarf king who built a church to marry a Christian maiden named Gotelind.
The archaeological site includes visible mortar traces, brick fragments, and wall remains beneath dense vegetation at 390 meters above sea level.
Ceramic fragments discovered 300 meters southwest of Wichtelkirche indicate the presence of a medieval settlement called Wüstung Blumenstein.
