Wolfsschluchthöhle, Natural cave in Lenningen, Germany

Wolfsschluchthöhle is a small natural cave near Lenningen that opens up over a short distance, displaying three freestanding stalagmites in its main chamber. The walls are covered with calcite crystals, and after the main room a narrow passage leads to a confined opening.

Archaeological finds suggest that people used the cave thousands of years ago in the Swabian Jura region. These early traces show that the area was explored and settled by humans for a very long time.

The cave's name comes from old stories about wolves that lived in the gorge long ago, showing how people and nature were connected in this area. You can still feel this history through the names and stories that locals tell today.

The cave is reached by a short walk from a hiking parking area situated between Schopfloch and Krebsstein. Visits are not possible from October to March because bats hibernate in the cave during those months.

The cave has a very low entrance less than 1 meter high, but then opens into a chamber where you can stand upright. This surprising change in space makes every visit feel like a small adventure.
