Neuer Markt, Market square in Rostock, Germany
The Neuer Markt forms a nearly square-shaped central plaza intersecting with multiple streets, including the main shopping area of Kröpeliner Straße.
The market square emerged in 1265 when three separate districts united, relocating their central activities to this location marked by the construction of notable gable houses.
The Möwenbrunnen fountain features bronze sculptures of four sea deities: Neptune with his trident, Nereus, Triton with a shell, and Proteus as a wanderer.
From Tuesday to Saturday, regional vendors fill the marketplace with fresh produce, fish, meat, and local products during the weekly market activities.
Six original gable houses from the 15th and 16th centuries remain on the western side, with house number 16 displaying Renaissance architectural elements.
