Blücherdenkmal

The Blücherdenkmal is a bronze statue on University Square in Rostock showing a Prussian field marshal in military uniform with a flowing coat, holding a marshal's baton and sword. The pedestal is decorated with bronze reliefs and inscriptions that frame the sculptural composition.

The monument was created to honor a Prussian field marshal who played a role in the wars against Napoleon, with its composition reflecting artistic traditions of the 19th century. Bronze was selected as the material to ensure the work could endure for generations.

The pedestal displays bronze reliefs showing the Battles of Ligny and Waterloo along with verses by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Visitors can observe how artists translated military events into visual narratives for public remembrance.

The monument stands in the center of University Square and is easily accessible from all directions, allowing visitors to walk freely around it. The surrounding area is open with clear views, making it simple to observe all angles and details.
