St. Cyriak, Baroque parish church in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany.
St. Cyriak is a baroque parish church in Freiburg im Breisgau featuring flat ceilings in the nave and choir adorned with Rococo ornaments designed by Franz Anton Vogel. The organ comes from a Portuguese case dating to 1800 and was installed in 1992 with 928 pipes across 17 registers.
The church replaced a medieval chapel called Sant Einbetten Kilch that survived the Thirty Years' War, though it was later demolished during fortification work in the city. A new church was subsequently built on the same site.
The interior displays clear baroque character through its ornamental details and spatial arrangement, which visitors naturally notice as they move through the nave. The style shapes how the space feels and how people use it for worship.
The church is open for visits during regular hours, with the best time being between services when you can explore calmly without disruptions. Information about opening times can be checked before planning your visit.
The high altar originates from a castle chapel on Schlossberg that was demolished in 1745, so it preserves a piece of this lost fortress. Visitors rarely know this connection between the altar and the vanished hilltop structure.
