Schloss Kalkhorst, Manor house in Kalkhorst, Germany.
Schloss Kalkhorst is a brick manor house built in the North German brick Gothic style, located in the village of Kalkhorst in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It features multiple towers, pointed arch windows, and detailed stone carving along its outer walls.
The manor was built between 1853 and 1874, making it one of the few surviving examples of the North German brick Gothic style from that period. In the early 2000s, a major renovation brought the building to its current state.
The ground floor of the manor houses a gallery showing works by local and regional artists. In the courtyard, working artists create pieces on-site, so visitors can watch them at work.
The park surrounding the manor is open during the day and can be explored on foot without booking in advance. Paths are uneven in places and there are steps around the property, so sturdy shoes are a good idea.
The park surrounding the manor was recognized in 2002 by the International Garden Exhibition as one of Germany's most beautiful parks. This award was given specifically for the landscape design, not the building itself, which shows how much attention went into shaping the grounds.
