Eisenacher Burg, Medieval castle ruins near Wartburg, Eisenach, Germany.
The castle complex features an irregular floor plan with five rectangular sections, fortified by three ramparts on a steep forested elevation.
Built before 1263, Eisenacher Burg served as a strategic siege fortress against Wartburg during the Hessian-Thuringian Succession War in 1306.
Archaeological investigations in 1995 revealed the architectural methods and military strategies employed in medieval German castle construction and warfare.
The castle remains are accessible without entrance fees, allowing visitors to examine the rock-hewn foundations and defensive structures throughout the year.
The fortress contained a trebuchet positioned in a carved rock cleft, specifically designed to launch projectiles at the nearby Wartburg Castle.
