Eselsburg-Tower

The Eselsburg Tower is a wooden observation structure rising approximately 18 meters high, built on a stone foundation atop Eselsberg hill near Vaihingen an der Enz. From its platform, visitors gain views across the surrounding vineyard landscape and the region's rolling hills.

The tower was built in 1925 on the site of the medieval Eselsburg fortress, first recorded in 1188. Stone from the earlier stronghold was repurposed to build vineyard walls throughout the surrounding area.

The tower takes its name from the medieval fortress that once occupied this hilltop. It serves as a focal point where visitors connect with the region's wine-growing heritage and its layered past.

The tower is open on Sundays and public holidays from 10 to 18, accessible via a clearly marked path from the base of the hill. Visitors should know that reaching the viewing platform requires climbing stairs, and weather conditions can affect visibility from the top.

On clear days, the viewing platform offers a 360-degree panorama reaching from Stuttgart to the Black Forest and extending to the Löwenstein Mountains. This sweeping vista allows visitors to grasp the geographic scope of the entire region in a single moment.
