Fernmeldeturm Meschede, Telecommunications tower in Meschede, Germany
The Fernmeldeturm Meschede is a concrete tower standing 158 meters tall, located about 3 kilometers north of Meschede town center within the Arnsberger Wald forest area. The facility is operated by Deutsche Funkturm and transmits radio signals across the surrounding region.
This concrete tower replaced an earlier steel lattice mast that previously occupied the site and was used for radio transmission across North Rhine-Westphalia. The current structure follows the standardized FMT13 design developed by the German Federal Post.
The structure supports the distribution of radio programs throughout North Rhine-Westphalia, including local broadcasts that enrich regional media diversity.
The facility sits in a wooded area northeast of Meschede and is easily visible from a distance. The immediate surroundings are not open to the public, though the distinctive structure can be viewed from afar.
The tower platform sits at 110 meters elevation within the forest area, positioned at a strategic point chosen to maximize radio coverage across this hilly region. This height placement makes it unusually effective for transmissions across the surrounding landscape.
