Talbrücke Pfeddersheim, Prestressed concrete bridge in Worms, Germany.
The Talbrücke Pfeddersheim is a prestressed concrete bridge spanning about 1470 meters and standing roughly 30 meters above the ground. It consists of 34 segments of reinforced concrete and was built as a road bridge to carry heavy traffic.
Construction started in 1972 and was completed in 1975, with substantial investment going into the project. The structure was part of an important infrastructure development for the region.
The bridge represents engineering achievement from the 1970s, using techniques that became models for many later construction projects in the region.
The bridge is part of the A61 motorway and sits between the Worms-North and Worms exits. The best way to see it is from a nearby motorway rest area or from the valley below, where you can better appreciate its height.
The bridge has a special design with two box-shaped girders that remain consistently 2.7 meters tall. In 2013, additional external cables were added to increase its load capacity and extend its lifespan.
