Schloss Bruchhausen, Château and brewery in Olsberg, Germany.
Schloss Bruchhausen is a château and brewery in Olsberg situated at 450 meters elevation on the western slope of Istenberg Mountain. The complex is surrounded by a moat spanned by two bridges and includes the main residence, a museum wing, an estate café, and managed agricultural lands.
The castle was originally the residence of the Lords of Bruchhausen until 1475, when it passed through marriage to Hermann von Gaugreben of Burg Goddelsheim. Following this transfer, it evolved over generations into the functioning estate it remains today.
The estate houses a brewery in a converted farm building where beer is crafted using traditional recipes rooted in regional customs. Brewing remains an integral part of daily operations and the property's identity.
The castle interior is private, but visitors can explore the coach museum, estate café with rose garden, and view the architecture from outside. A walk around the bridges and surrounding grounds offers good views of the structure and landscape.
The property manages approximately 700 hectares of forest and produces timber and venison using traditional estate management methods. This large-scale forestry operation is uncommon today and demonstrates how historic estates maintain sustainable practices.
