Kiessee in Göttingen

The Kiessee spans 15 hectares of water surface with a 2.5-kilometer shoreline, surrounded by green spaces and walking paths for outdoor activities.

The lake originated from a gravel extraction site and underwent transformations in 2011, 2012, and 2015 to become a natural park landscape.

The southern area contains a protected bird island that serves as a nesting ground for multiple species including swans, geese, and migratory birds.

Visitors can rent pedal boats and rowing boats from spring to autumn, while stone tables near the playground area enable barbecue gatherings.

The lake functions as a flood control system through a connection created in 2003 to divert excess water from the Leine River during high water periods.
