Hohenberg, Mountain summit in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany.
Hohenberg is a 552-meter sandstone summit rising within the Palatinate Forest, with views from its peak across the Rhine plain, Odenwald, and Vosges. The mountain has a broad, forested base and its plateau is easily reached by multiple routes.
The mountain served a role in French telegraph history when a station was built on its summit in 1794 to connect Paris with Landau. This strategic function ended when the region transferred to Bavarian control in 1816.
The summit holds meaning for the local Birkweiler community through gatherings that take place on the peak throughout the year. These events connect residents to the mountain and reinforce its role as a meeting point for the region.
The mountain can be reached via several hiking routes, including a circular trail that passes through forest terrain and can be started from different directions. Proper footwear and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended, especially if you plan to visit the outlying viewpoints around the summit.
At the western side of the mountain are rock formations used as launching points for hang gliders while also offering views of several castles in the surrounding region. This combination of air sports and castle vistas makes this spot particularly memorable for visitors.
