Lonauer Wasserfall

The Lonauer Wasserfall flows through a rocky gorge with two distinct drops at different heights. The water divides into separate streams as it cascades over limestone and greywacke rock formations.

This waterfall formed during glacial periods when the Lonau and Sieber rivers carved separate paths through the rock. These processes shaped the current gorge over thousands of years.

The waterfall marks a notable point along the Karst Trail and shows the geological boundary between the Harz Mountains and the southern karst region. Visitors can observe here how different rock types shape the landscape.

The waterfall is accessible via a well-marked footpath with parking areas located nearby. The walk is easy to manage on foot and offers several viewing points along the gorge.

Water flows here with varying force from several springs in the rock face, depending on the season and rainfall. This variability makes each visit a different experience.
