Lighthouse Darßer Ort, Maritime beacon in Born auf dem Darß, Germany.
Lighthouse Darßer Ort is a red brick structure at the northernmost tip of the Darß peninsula in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, rising approximately 35 meters high. The site consists of a dwelling and the tower itself, which continues to serve today as a navigation aid for Baltic Sea vessels.
The facility was built in 1849 and was one of the first lighthouses on the German Baltic coast to improve maritime safety. Over time, the structure was modernized several times while maintaining its original red brick appearance.
The NATUREUM museum beside the structure displays exhibits about regional wildlife, coastal ecosystems, and how people have lived with the sea for generations. Visitors can discover how important this location has been to fishing and maritime life in the Baltic region.
The lighthouse sits at the end of a forest path and is accessible on foot or by bicycle, with the final stretch following a well-marked trail. Those wanting views from higher up can climb the interior stairs, though access is best attempted in good weather conditions.
The beacon sits within the National Park Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft, a little-visited region with unspoiled sandy beaches and pristine forests. The location offers solitude and nature far from crowded tourist destinations, where one can wander through dunes and forest trails with few other people around.
