Kantine Westfalia

Kantine Westfalia is a former factory dining building in Lünen with corner towers, arched windows, and facade details combining Romanesque and castle design elements. The interior features cast-iron columns supporting the space, with an ornate iron staircase linking the different levels of the structure.

The building was constructed around 1870 as a dining facility for workers of Eisenhütte Westfalia, founded in 1826 as the first industrial enterprise in Lünen. After extensive renovations beginning in 2021, it now serves as an event venue and is part of the Route of Industrial Heritage.

The building carries its name from its original role as a dining hall for factory workers, and today visitors still walk through spaces that reflect the care taken in its design. The cast-iron columns and ornate staircase speak to the respect shown in creating this working-class facility.

The building is accessed via stairs and corridors as it sits on uneven terrain that should be considered when planning a visit. Visitors should check in advance for current opening hours and available tours, as the building primarily functions as an event venue.

The building remains the last functioning structure from the former ironworks complex and shows how industrial facilities once cared for their workers through thoughtful design. Its architecture reflects an effort to enrich daily work life with refined design elements.
