Knopffabrik PSW, Button factory and architectural monument in Sedansberg district, Wuppertal, Germany.
The Knopffabrik PSW is a three-winged industrial building on Alarichstraße with red brick architecture and continuous rows of large windows. The structure spans three and a half stories and shows the functional design typical of factory buildings from that era.
The building was constructed in 1906 as a factory for button production and was part of Wuppertal's growing industrial network. Over the 20th century it remained an active production site and was later recognized as an industrial monument.
The factory represents the regional tradition of button manufacturing and how this craft shaped Wuppertal's working life. You can see the sturdy brick construction and large windows that were typical of such production facilities.
The building is now divided into loft apartments and remains occupied, so it can only be viewed from the outside. The interior is not open to the public, but you can see the facade and structure from the public street.
The factory produced buttons for well-known fashion companies until a few years ago and was an active production site for over a century. After operations ended, the building was carefully converted to residential space while keeping its industrial architecture intact.
