The Marienbibliothek occupies a Renaissance building next to the Marienkirche, featuring extensive storage facilities and the Gertrauden Chapel.
Sebastian Boetius established the library in 1552 with books purchased at the Leipzig Fair, making it Germany's oldest continuously accessible Protestant church library.
The collection includes 36,000 volumes covering theology, medicine, law, astronomy, natural sciences, history, and philosophy, with 435 incunabula from before 1500.
Located at An der Marienkirche 1 in Halle, the library functions as a reference-only facility and participates in the Common Library Network.
The library holds a Torah scroll from the early 14th century and preserves Georg Friedrich Handel's baptismal record in its church archives.
