The Wilhelm Friedemann Bach House exhibits musical instruments, documents, and artifacts spanning several centuries of German musical heritage in a restored Renaissance building.
From 1746 to 1770, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, the eldest son of Johann Sebastian Bach, resided in this house while serving as organist at Marktkirche.
The museum presents permanent exhibitions about six notable composers connected to Halle: Samuel Scheidt, George Frideric Handel, Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, Johann Reichardt, Carl Loewe, and Robert Franz.
The museum, located at Große Klausstraße 12, opened in 2012 after extensive renovations and features multiple listening stations for visitors to experience historical compositions.
The building contains a preserved 16th-century Bohlenstube, a specialized insulated room, displaying period musical instruments and demonstrating historical domestic music practices.
