Winsen Museum Farm, Historical farm museum in Winsen an der Aller, Germany
Winsen Museum Farm is an open-air museum with six historical buildings arranged around a large North German farmhouse. The structures contain equipment, tools, and household items that show how farmers worked the land, kept animals, and made products for daily use.
The main farmhouse dates to 1653 and was moved to this location in 1982 to preserve traditional architecture from the southern Lüneburg Heath region. Additional buildings were added later, representing different periods of the area's rural past.
The site shows how people lived and worked in this region across many generations. Visitors see everyday objects and techniques that reveal the connection between rural communities and their land and animals.
The museum grounds are easy to walk through and you can explore the buildings at your own pace. There is a café on site for refreshments, and group tours can be arranged with advance notice.
One building dating to 1795 now serves as an event venue and even contains an official room for civil wedding ceremonies. This makes the museum special because history here is not just preserved but also actively used.
