Insel Pulitz, Protected nature area in Buschvitz, Germany.
Insel Pulitz is a protected nature area covering approximately 218 hectares within the Small Jasmunder Bodden near the Jasmund Peninsula. The site comprises a peninsular section alongside shallow water zones that form important natural habitats for the region.
The area was established as a bird sanctuary in 1937 and underwent changes in protection status during the 1950s. Its conservation scope was expanded in 1964 to more thoroughly preserve the region's biological diversity.
The site serves as a destination for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts who come to observe rare species in their natural habitat. The forests and shorelines function as refuges for wildlife that is difficult to find elsewhere.
The area can be reached via a field path from Stedar and is accessible to visitors only from mid-July through mid-January. Visiting requires sturdy footwear and patience, as wildlife observations demand time and quiet conditions.
The area holds the only kettle bog on Rügen island, a rare habitat with specialized plants. This wetland vegetation featuring cotton grass and bulrushes is found in the reserve's southern section.
