Burgberg und Wall, German promontory fort in Binz, Germany

Burgberg und Wall is a fortification wall on the Thiessow peninsula that extends roughly 500 meters and reaches a height of about 8 meters with a base width of about 15 meters. The structure encloses a substantial fortified area and shows the typical construction style of ring fortifications in this region.

This ring fortification dates back to the Bronze Age and is one of the largest fortifications of its kind on Rugen. It shows that this region was already considered strategically important in prehistoric times.

Local people call this fortification Burgberg or Tempelberg, suggesting it may have served a religious or ceremonial purpose. Visitors can still sense today how this location held special meaning for those who built and used it.

An entrance passage provides access to the fortified area, though it is not positioned at the center of the structure. It is best to wear comfortable shoes since the path over and around the wall can be uneven and sometimes muddy.

In the water beside the fortification rests a large stone block measuring roughly 4 meters long, 3.5 meters wide, and 2 meters tall. This remarkable boulder could be a naturally eroded glacial stone or may relate to the original construction of the site.
