Phönixhalle, Mehrzweckhalle in Mainz
The Phönixhalle is a large event building in Mainz covering about 5000 square meters with ceiling heights above 11 meters (36 feet). The open space extends almost 60 meters (197 feet) wide and 80 meters (262 feet) deep, offering flexible seating for up to 3000 people.
The building was constructed in 1949 on the ruins of a factory destroyed in the Second World War, originally for producing streetcars and train wagons. Production ended in 1994, and the hall was converted into an event venue in the late 1990s.
The name phoenix refers to the rising again of industry after the war, symbolizing the city's rebirth from destruction. Today visitors experience concerts, theater, and local celebrations like Mainz carnival here, making it a gathering place for shared cultural moments.
The event space can be used as an open floor or divided into multiple areas depending on needs, allowing different event types to run simultaneously. Visitors will find modern lighting and sound equipment plus ample parking nearby.
The hall reopened in 2015 under the new name Halle 45, named after the building's original number 6345. Original factory cranes remain visible inside and were cleverly repurposed as movable walls, keeping the space's raw industrial character.
