Prinz Luitpold Hut, Mountain hut in Bad Hindelang, Germany.
Prinz Luitpold Hut is a mountain refuge in the Allgäu Alps at 1,846 meters elevation that provides lodging for hikers and mountaineers traveling to the Hochvogel summit. The building contains sleeping areas and a dining space where visitors stay and take meals.
The refuge was founded in 1880 by the German Alpine Association and named after a Bavarian prince. This founding marked the start of organized mountaineering activities in this mountain region.
The hut embodies Alpine hospitality through its regional cooking traditions and the way guests are welcomed and cared for. Visitors experience the local food culture and the generosity that mountain communities are known for.
The hike to the hut takes about 2.5 hours starting from a parking area near Giebelhaus, which is accessible by bus from Hinterstein. Overnight stays should be reserved in advance since the refuge attracts many visitors and has limited bedding.
During winter months when the main hut closes, an emergency room with 16 beds remains accessible for mountaineers and hikers. This allows visitors to find shelter and basic facilities year-round on the mountain.
