Reiterleskapelle, Religious chapel in Waldstetten, Germany.
The Reiterleskapelle is a small chapel near Waldstetten in the Schwäbische Alb region, standing at approximately 640 meters (2,100 feet) elevation. It sits between the Rechbergle and Graneggle mountains and offers views across the surrounding landscape.
The chapel was built in 1714, as shown by an inscription on the doorway lintel. An old linden tree next to the building suggests that some structure existed at this spot around 1600.
The chapel honors Saint Leonard, the patron saint of farmers and horses, with a statue inside showing him holding an abbot's staff and a book. Locals and pilgrims visit to seek blessings for their work and livestock, making this a place of spiritual importance for the surrounding farming communities.
The route to the chapel follows marked hiking trails from Waldstetten with a steep 4-kilometer (2.5-mile) ascent to reach the hilltop location. The path offers shaded sections through forest and open stretches with views along the way.
The chapel sits where multiple hiking routes cross, including the Jakobsweg pilgrimage path, where travelers collect stamps to record their journey. This location makes it a popular stop for long-distance hikers passing through the region.
