Burg Ramsberg, Medieval castle in Donzdorf, Germany.
Burg Ramsberg is a castle built on a hilltop near Donzdorf, featuring a hall dating to the 13th century with a ribbed vault supported by eight columns. The structure combines medieval fortification design with later additions in the Gothic style.
The castle was built around 1200 and first documented on September 22, 1270, when a local nobleman made a donation concerning a serf to the site. This early record shows it served as a seat of local power during the medieval period.
The chapel on the grounds displays late Gothic architecture and is dedicated to Saint Martin, built in 1560 and rebuilt after damage from fire decades later.
The site sits on a hillside and is reachable by local roads on foot or by car, though public access is restricted since it operates as a private facility. Visitors should inquire in advance about any opportunities to view the grounds.
Since 2000 the castle has operated as a horse breeding facility, giving it a living function rather than serving only as a historical monument. It was added to the Route of the Staufer in 1977, connecting it to a regional network of medieval sites across southern Germany.
