Ringlokschuppen Mülheim, Cultural center in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany
Ringlokschuppen Mülheim is a cultural center in Mülheim an der Ruhr, housed in a listed 19th-century railway locomotive shed. The building, with its steel framework, sits inside the MuGa Park and contains four performance spaces of different sizes.
The building was erected in 1875 as a locomotive shed for steam engine maintenance and remained in railway use well into the 20th century. After the railway operations ended, it was converted into a cultural center, with the original steel structure kept intact.
The Ringlokschuppen is known for contemporary theater and dance, often bringing together international productions and local projects. Visitors experience performances in a space that still clearly shows its industrial past.
The center is inside the MuGa Park and easy to reach on foot or by bike, with parking available close by. Checking the program in advance is a good idea, as events vary widely depending on the season.
The original locomotive turntable, once used to rotate engines into position, now serves as an open-air stage for outdoor performances. It is still fully intact and clearly visible to visitors walking around the building.
