Schloss Badinghagen

Schloss Badinghagen is a moated castle near the Bergisches Land border in Meinerzhagen. The structure features a solid stone base with half-timbered upper sections and shingled cladding throughout.

The castle first appeared in records from 1160 and belonged to the Badinghagen family for centuries until their line ended in 1642. It underwent major renovation in 1902 while maintaining its medieval foundation.

The castle displays regional architectural features with half-timbered and shingled construction that shaped the area's appearance. This building style reflects how people in this region constructed their homes across centuries.

The castle is privately owned and cannot be entered, but its exterior is visible from the surrounding hiking trails. Visitors can stroll on nearby footpaths and photograph the building from outside.

The castle moat is fed directly by the Agger River, creating a continuously flowing water system around the structure. This is uncommon, as most castle moats relied on standing water.
