Schloss Horneburg, Historical château in Datteln, Germany
The Horneburg Castle features an east wing of the former outer ward, standing as a structural element of medieval defensive architecture.
First documented in 1220 as part of Richrode court, the castle belonged to the Lords of Oer until 1418 and later became property of Cologne Archbishop.
The castle grounds regularly host regional events where visitors can experience North Rhine-Westphalia traditions and local products throughout the year.
The castle offers guided tours explaining its architectural features and history, with parking spaces and public transportation access nearby.
From 1907 to 1959, the castle operated as a household management school specifically dedicated to educating farmers' daughters.
