Midgard Serpent, Steel family roller coaster at Hansa Park in Sierksdorf, Germany
Midgard Serpent is a steel roller coaster at Hansa Park in Sierksdorf, combining indoor tunnel sections with open outdoor segments. The cars seat two riders side by side, and part of the track runs directly over water.
The coaster was built by Gerstlauer Amusement Rides and opened in 2011 as part of the Land of Vikings section within the park. Its arrival marked an expansion of the park with a new area built around Nordic themes.
The name refers to a sea creature from Norse mythology, said to encircle the world beneath the ocean. The ride is part of a themed area dedicated to Viking stories, where the surroundings reinforce that narrative throughout.
Part of the track passes over water, so it is worth securing any loose items before boarding. The tunnel sections are fully dark, which is good to know if you are sensitive to sudden changes in light.
Although the ride is not especially tall, the repeated switch between complete darkness inside the tunnels and open daylight above the water creates a sense of disorientation that many visitors do not expect. This effect is most noticeable on sunny days when the contrast is at its strongest.
