The Oath of KÄRNAN, Steel roller coaster at Hansa Park, Germany.
The Oath of KÄRNAN is a steel roller coaster at Hansa Park in Sierksdorf on the Baltic coast of Schleswig-Holstein. The ride features a 240-foot (73-meter) vertical lift tower and a total track length of 4,050 feet (1,235 meters) that takes approximately two and a half minutes to complete.
The ride takes its name from the medieval fortress tower Kärnan in Helsingborg, built in the 13th century under Danish King Erik VI. The tower was part of a larger castle that was later destroyed during wars between Denmark and Sweden, with Kärnan remaining as the only surviving section.
Inside the Kärnan Museum, guests watch documentary films about Danish medieval history while they wait for their turn. The queue winds through rooms that resemble tower chambers and dungeons before riders reach the boarding area at the base of the structure.
Guests must be at least 130 centimeters tall to ride and cannot wear glasses or carry personal items during the experience. Lockers are available near the entrance to store bags and belongings securely.
The ride features the first vertical lift in the world where passengers fall backward in complete darkness from a height of 197 feet (60 meters). During the free fall, riders experience several seconds of weightlessness before the main roller coaster section begins.
